WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Documentary Wedding Photography

in Gloucestershire & the Cotswolds

Your wedding isn't a photoshoot.

It'll probably go faster than you expect.

There'll be people you haven't seen for years, things that don't quite go according to plan, speeches that make everyone laugh, somebody crying before the ceremony, and somebody dancing far too enthusiastically.

That's what I want to photograph.

I'm Ross, the photographer behind Wilson Studios. I photograph weddings using a relaxed documentary approach that lets you enjoy your day while I quietly tell its story.

REAL MOMENTS

Nothing forced.

My approach is simple: you enjoy your wedding, and I'll take care of remembering it.

Your wedding day doesn't need to be directed from beginning to end. I'll be there to photograph the big moments, of course, but I'm just as interested in everything happening around them  the nervous laughter before the ceremony, the hug from a parent, the tears during the speeches, the friends who haven't seen each other for years and the chaos on the dance floor.

PHOTOGRAPHY THAT LETS YOU BE PRESENT

Bride in a lace gown and groom in a tartan kilt laugh as colorful confetti fills the air on the steps outside their wedding ceremony.

You don't need to spend your wedding day performing for the camera.

There's a difference between photographing a wedding and turning a wedding into a photoshoot.

I want you to spend your day with your people.

Enjoy the ceremony.

Laugh at the speeches.

Have that extra drink with your friends.

Dance badly.

Cry if you need to.

And forget that I'm there.

I'll be watching, anticipating and looking for the moments that tell the story of your day. Sometimes that's a huge emotional moment. Sometimes it's something tiny. Often, it's something that nobody else noticed.

Those are the photographs I love most.

WHAT DOES "DOCUMENTARY" ACTUALLY MEAN?

Documentary wedding photography is about observing rather than constantly directing. I'm not going to manufacture moments that weren't there or ask you to recreate something because it would look good in a photograph. Instead, I'll photograph your wedding as it unfolds.

THE BIG MOMENTS

Your ceremony. The confetti. The speeches. The first dance. The celebrations.

Two interlocking black outline hearts overlapping each other in a minimalist line icon symbolizing love, romance, and partnership.

THE LITTLE MOMENTS

A squeeze of a hand. A nervous glance. Someone laughing at the back of the room. Your parents watching you during the ceremony. A quiet moment together when nobody else is around.

THE PEOPLE

Your friends. Your family. The people you've known forever. The people who have travelled miles to be there. The people who make your wedding your wedding. That's what turns a collection of photographs into a story.

BUT WHAT ABOUT PORTRAITS?

Of course we'll make time for photographs of the two of you.

Documentary doesn't mean I simply disappear with a camera and never speak to you.

There will be photographs of you together. Beautiful photographs. The difference is that I don't want to spend hours pulling you away from your guests to create them.

We'll find a little time during the day  often somewhere with beautiful light and a bit of breathing space  and I'll give you simple, relaxed direction.

You don't need to know what to do. You don't need to know how to pose. And you definitely don't need to be a model. I'll take care of that.

The aim is for your portraits to look like you, rather than two people pretending to be wedding models.

WHAT YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY CAN INCLUDE

GETTING READY

The anticipation. The details. The people helping you get ready. The nerves before everything begins.

YOUR PEOPLE

Family photographs. Friends. Hugs. Laughter. The people who travelled to celebrate with you.

THE COUPLE PORTRAITS

A little time together. Beautiful light. Natural direction. No awkward posing.

THE CEREMONY

The walk down the aisle. The reactions. The vows. The first kiss. The moments immediately afterwards.

THE RECEPTION

Drinks. Dinner. Speeches. Unexpected moments. All the things that happen when everyone relaxes.

THE PARTY

The first dance. The dance floor. The chaos. The celebrations. And whatever happens after that.

A RELAXED APPROACH TO GROUP PHOTOGRAPHS

Bride and groom pose on a grassy lawn beside a still pond in front of an ornate Gothic-style stone mansion with arched lattice windows.

Yes, we'll take the family photographs. And we'll try not to make them painful.

Family photographs are important. Years from now, these might be some of the photographs you value most. But nobody wants to spend an hour standing in a line while their wedding guests wait around.

So we'll keep things organised and efficient. I'll help you decide which group photographs matter most before the wedding, then we'll get them done without taking over your day.

THE GOAL: Important photographs. Minimal fuss.

There isn't a standard Wilson Studios wedding

YOUR WEDDING IS UNIQUE

A smiling bride and groom in white wedding attire share a romantic embrace near a glass window with green hills behind.

You might be getting married in a Cotswolds barn, a country house, a Gloucestershire church, a village venue, a small family gathering, or somewhere completely unexpected.

The photography should adapt to you. I'll take the time to understand what matters to you, who the important people are and how you want your day to feel. Then I'll photograph it accordingly.

FAQ

How would you describe your photography style?

My style is relaxed, natural and documentary-led. I'll photograph the genuine moments as they happen while giving you gentle direction when it's useful.

Do you photograph traditional group photographs?

Absolutely. Family photographs are an important part of many weddings. We'll organise them efficiently so you get the photographs you want without losing a huge chunk of your day.

Do we need to pose?

Not in the traditional sense. I'll give you simple direction when we're taking portraits, but I'm not interested in making you stand in awkward poses for hours.

How much time do we need for couple portraits?

Usually around 15–30 minutes is plenty, although we'll work around your schedule and the light on the day.

How many hours of photography do we need?

Six hours can work brilliantly for a smaller wedding. Ten hours gives us much more room to tell the complete story, from preparations through to evening celebrations.

Do you photograph weddings outside Gloucestershire?

Yes. I'm based in Gloucestershire and regularly work throughout the Cotswolds and surrounding areas. I'm also happy to travel further for the right wedding.

Can we meet before booking?

Absolutely. I think it's important that you feel comfortable with the person who'll be spending a large part of your wedding day with you.
